Bird Flu Likely Candidate for ‘Next Pandemic’: Australian Professor (Epoch Times, 5/24/2024) A scientist at the Australian National University claims the next pandemic could be just around the corner and bird flu is a “likely candidate.” The infectious disease physician made the comments on May 23, after the first Australian case of human bird flu H5N1 was announced and H7N3 was detected on a poultry farm in regional Victoria. Associate Professor of Medicine Sanjaya Senanayake suggested a pandemic could be on the way soon and it will likely be bird flu. Dr. Senanayake said the detection of bird flu at an egg farm in Victoria is “not good news” and highlights the need for a new Australian Centre for Disease Control to be fully resourced. She said, however, that Avian flu viruses do not transmit easily in humans because they are adapted for birds. However, she added they can mutate to become adapted to the human respiratory tract. “That is what we fear,” she said. New Human Case of Bird Flu Confirmed by CDC (Epoch Times, 5/30/2024) A new human case of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed, officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on May 30. The patient is a Michigan resident who works with dairy cows. The patient’s age, gender, and work location weren’t disclosed by federal or state officials. The patient likely contracted the bird flu from cattle, officials said. The person experienced symptoms after “direct exposure to an infected cow,” Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s chief medical executive, said in a statement. The case is the third confirmed among humans in the United States this year. The previously confirmed cases, one each in Texas and Michigan, also cropped up in farm workers. Both of those workers experienced inflamed eyes and have since recovered, as did a person who contracted the illness in Colorado in 2022. Globally, more than half of cases reported to the World Health Organization since the early 2000s have resulted in death. The bird flu jumped to cows in late 2023 or earlier this year, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists. Cases have since been confirmed in 67 herds across nine states, including Michigan, the department says. The flu has also spread to other species in recent years, including foxes, bears, and alpacas. I don’t believe for a second any of this is coincidental. I believe it was planned. These people are evil. 24 GOP Governors Tell Biden Not to Sign WHO Pandemic Agreement (Epoch Times, 5/23/2024) Governors from 24 states have joined together to speak out against treaty negotiations being conducted by the Biden administration that “would purport to grant” the World Health Organization (WHO) “unprecedented and unconstitutional powers over the United States and its people.” In a March 22 letter, the governors stated that they “stand united in opposition to two proposed instruments” currently under negotiation. “The objective of these instruments is to empower the WHO, particularly its uncontrollable Director-General, with the authority to restrict the rights of U.S. citizens, including freedoms such as speech, privacy, travel, choice of medical care, and informed consent, thus violating our Constitution’s core principles,” the governors wrote. “If adopted, these agreements would seek to elevate the WHO from an advisory body to a global authority in public health.” The documents they refer to are a new treaty called the WHO pandemic agreement and amendments to the existing International Health Regulations (IHR), which together would centralize a significant amount of authority within this U.N. subsidiary if the WHO declares a state of “health emergency.” The letter was signed by the governors of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. During negotiations among member nations before the opening of the World Health Assembly on May 27, the WHO appeared to have scaled back some of the powers it had sought in hopes of finalizing a deal ahead of a vote on the treaty. The latest IHR draft has deleted a prior provision that member nations “recognize WHO as the guiding and coordinating authority of international public health response” and commit to following the WHO’s directives during a health emergency. The latest draft also states that WHO recommendations are nonbinding. The WHO had attempted in previous drafts to obtain powers over “all risks with the potential to impact public health,” which could include environmental and climate issues. The latest draft seeks to limit the WHO’s authority on diseases. The WHO has simultaneously launched a public relations campaign, using politicians, celebrities, and religious leaders, to encourage member states to sign the agreements. On March 20, WHO ambassador and former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown praised the efforts of a “100+ pantheon of global leaders” that have come to the WHO’s defense. “A high-powered intervention by 23 former national Presidents, 22 former Prime Ministers, a former UN General Secretary, and 3 Nobel Laureates is being made today to press for an urgent agreement from international negotiators on a Pandemic Accord, under the Constitution of the World Health Organization, to bolster the world’s collective preparedness and response to future pandemics,” Mr. Brown said in a statement. He called for an international effort to “expose fake news disinformation campaigns by conspiracy theorists trying to torpedo international agreement for the Pandemic Accord.” “No country will cede any sovereignty, and no country will see their national laws set aside,” he said. The issue of whether or not to grant the WHO additional powers has become a partisan issue, with Democrats generally supporting the plan and Republicans generally opposing it. On May 1, all 49 GOP senators signed a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to either not sign the WHO Pandemic Agreement and IHR amendments or submit the treaty to the Senate for approval, as required by the Constitution. Senate Democrats have thus far not supported efforts to require Senate approval for the treaty. “The WHO’s failure during the COVID-19 pandemic was as total as it was predictable and did lasting harm to our country,” the Republican senators wrote. “The United States cannot afford to ignore this latest WHO inability to perform its most basic functions and must insist on comprehensive WHO reforms before even considering amendments to the International Health Regulations or any new pandemic-related treaty that would increase WHO authority. We are deeply concerned that your administration continues to support these initiatives and strongly urge you to change course.” In the United States, the authority to deal with health issues is largely in the domain of states and outside the grasp of the federal government. States with Republican majorities have actively opposed the WHO agreements. Louisiana and Florida recently passed laws stating that state officials will not obey WHO directives, and other states, such as Oklahoma, are considering similar legislation. Attorneys general from 22 U.S. states also signed a May 8 letter to President Biden urging him not to sign the WHO agreements and stating that they will resist any attempts by the WHO to set public health policy in their states. “Although the latest iteration is far better than previous versions, it’s still highly problematic,” the attorneys general wrote. “The fluid and opaque nature of these proceedings, moreover, could allow the most egregious provisions from past versions to return. Ultimately, the goal of these instruments isn’t to protect public health. “It’s to cede authority to the WHO—specifically its director-general—to restrict our citizens’ rights to freedom of speech, privacy, movement (especially travel across borders), and informed consent.” Why have we heard zero from all parties in Canada about this unprecedented attempt at a secret grab of power and control by the World Health Organization? (Epoch Times, 5/29/2024) In the past six months, bird flu has surprised scientists at least twice. Bird flu viruses have circulated mainly in birds for a long time. However, in early December 2023, an outbreak occurred in U.S. dairy cows, even though cattle are not typically susceptible to avian influenza A, the bird flu virus. In late March, a U.S. dairy farm worker was infected by a H5N1 virus from a cow. On May 22, a second human case of H5N1 infection was reported with prior exposure to infected dairy cows in Michigan. On the same day in May, an Australian child was infected by an H7 strain, another subtype of influenza A known to cause human infections. Since bird flu infections in humans are rare, these incidents have raised significant concern among scientists. Why is this happening, and how concerned should we be? The history of the H5N1 virus family can be traced back to 1996 when it was first discovered in a sick goose in the Guangdong province of China. H5N1 has evolved, resulting in different genetic lineages (clades) as they mutate, similar to a typical pattern of behavior for RNA viruses such as the ever-emerging COVID-19 variants. In 2013, the H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b emerged. Since then, it has spread rapidly to nearly 100 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and America, becoming the most dominant clade and causing significant losses to the poultry industry. In December 2021, this particular clade 2.3.4.4b, was first identified in wild birds in the United States. The clade quickly mixed with other circulating influenza A viruses in wild birds in North America. This resulted in viral reassortment and recombination of genes and exhibiting diverse characteristics. Many of these variants cause severe illnesses in mammals, significantly affecting their nervous system. There is a wide variety of bird flu viruses, ranging from H1 to H19, but they have mostly remained in birds and animals, rarely affecting humans. This changed with the H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b. Since December 2023, the highly pathogenic H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b viruses have been reported to spread in dairy cows in multiple U.S. states, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Centers for Disease Control. From early this year, some cows have been producing less milk and eating less. It was later confirmed that the H5Nx clade 2.3.4.4b viruses were present in both the cows’ milk and nasal samples. The USDA reported an outbreak in this clade in cows for the first time. As of May 28, there were 67 herds infected by the H5N1 virus in nine states. Despite the low number of infected herds, this could indicate that it is no longer just a spillover event, but rather a significant expansion of host tropism. The concern is when a large-scale outbreak might occur. Furthermore, as dairy cows often live in close proximity to humans, infections in cows may also impact human health. In the past 20 years, there have been sporadic human infections with the H5N1 virus. There have been 888 infected patients, resulting in 463 deaths reported across 23 countries. The majority of cases have occurred in Egypt, Indonesia, and Vietnam. These cases have resulted in a cumulative case fatality rate of more than 50 percent, based on data collected by the World Health Organization. If a highly pathogenic H5N1 virus were to develop the ability to spread easily among humans, including through human-to-human transmission, it could have a significant impact on the human population, given the high mortality rate observed in previous cases. The original avian H5N1 viruses were not easily transmissible between mammals. About a decade ago, two virologists, Yoshihiro Kawaoka from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Ron Fouchier of Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands, alarmed the world by conducting high-risk gain-of-function studies on H5N1. The process was complex. For example, a mutant H5N1 virus was created carrying the specific gene mutation PB2 E627K. It was then passed through ferrets 10 times. After gaining a total of five mutations, the mutant H5N1 virus gained the ability to be transmitted via aerosols or respiratory droplets. These mutations had only been found in nature, but never all within the same strain. Moreover, their lab manipulation and enhanced ability to transmit via aerosol has resulted in pandemic potential. In 2011, Paul Keim, a microbial geneticist who chaired the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB), expressed concern after reviewing their publications. “I can’t think of another pathogenic organism that is as scary as this one,” he told Science. Having worked on anthrax for many years, he added, “I don’t think that anthrax is scary at all compared to this.” On April 1, 2021, a three-party project was initiated between the United States, the UK, and China that included the USDA, the U.S. National Poultry Research Center, the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) in Georgia, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Roslin Institute in the UK. The USDA is sponsoring a grant of $1 million for this project. The SEPRL and Roslin Institute provide expertise in avian immunology genomics and viral transcriptomics analysis. The actual experiments are conducted in China’s CAS lab. There might be a specific reason for choosing this location. The project, as we’ll explain later, is also a gain-of-function (GOF) study. GOF studies on the bird flu virus have triggered broad criticism by the U.S. scientific community since 2011. Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist and laboratory director at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology, also told Science, “This work should never have been done.” From a biosafety perspective, scientists have expressed concern that a new virus generated through research could escape from the lab or that bioterrorists could leverage the published results into a bioweapon for malignant purposes. In the United States, gain-of-function experiments involving influenza, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus were banned from October 2014 through December 2017. The moratorium was lifted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Dec. 19, 2017. Chinese labs often have sufficient technical capacity but face a major challenge due to relatively loose biosecurity regulations. Former CDC director, Dr. Robert Redfield, recently stated, “Bird flu, I think, is going to be the cause of a great pandemic—where they are teaching these viruses how to be more infectious for humans.” There has been longstanding criticism of gain-of-function research. Several members of the U.S. Congress have also expressed serious concern about collaborating with the Chinese on bird flu research. “We are disturbed by recent reports about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-linked Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on bird flu research,” they wrote in an April 12 letter. “This research, funded by American taxpayers, could potentially generate dangerous new lab-created virus strains that threaten our national security and public health,” they added. The pathogenicity of H5N1 in animals has increased. In a 2023 study published in Cell, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and the Vaccine Research Center of the NIH, used their existing model of cynomolgus macaques to test the effectiveness of the H5N1 vaccine. In this study, an inhaled aerosol dose of 5.1 log10 plaque-forming units (PFU) caused a strong fever and acute respiratory disease in four out of six macaques, resulting in their deaths. PFU is a method of measuring the amount of the virus. In comparison, in studies conducted from 2001 to 2014 with cynomolgus macaques, when these monkeys were given high doses of H5N1 (6.5–7.8 log10 PFU) through various routes (nose, throat, mouth, and eyes), they usually developed mild illness, and only 2 out of 49 monkeys died from the infection, based on previous reports. Compared to the studies done 10 to 23 years ago, a much lower dose used in the 2023 study caused a much higher percentage (half) of the monkeys’ deaths. This indicates that the pathogenicity of the H5N1 virus has dramatically increased. In many health articles from The Epoch Times, we emphasize that the best way to prevent a pandemic or viral infection is to focus on improving our health. This includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle, enhancing our natural immunity, and preserving our natural healing abilities. Editing the virus to enhance its transmissibility and pathogenicity, and researching its pandemic potential, only fuels more fear, rather than resolving the issue. Ironically, some modern technology can have an extensive negative impact on society. The ability of scientists to conduct GOF research does not justify its necessity. It’s time for people to wake up. Bird Flu Confirmed in Wyoming Cattle Herd, 12th State to Record Infections (Epoch Times, 6/9/2024) Bird flu has been detected in a dairy cattle herd in Wyoming, the state’s agriculture department said on June 7, making it the 12th confirmed state where the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been detected in cows. To date, dairy cows infected with bird flu in five states have died or been slaughtered by farmers because they didn’t recover, according to earlier reporting from The Epoch Times. So far three human infections have been reported in the United States (two in Michigan and one in Texas), with all three cases reported among dairy farm workers. Finland to Start Bird Flu Vaccinations for Humans (Epoch Times, 6/25/2024) Finland plans to offer avian influenza vaccinations as soon as the week of June 30 to some workers with exposure to animals, health authorities said on June 25. That would make it the first country in the world to do so. The H5N1 strain of avian influenza, or bird flu, has circulated for decades in birds but has recently jumped to other species, including cattle in the United States. Three humans in the United States have had confirmed infections this year, while Finland has none. The U.S. government has ordered nearly 5 million doses of the influenza vaccine made by CSL, and manufacturing is slated to be completed by the end of the summer. Pfizer and Moderna are also in talks with U.S. officials about messenger RNA vaccines against H5N1, after developing two widely used COVID-19 vaccines. Hmmmmm…..see what’s coming? Round 2. Former CDC Director Predicts Bird Flu Virus Will Cause Next Pandemic (Epoch Times, 6/27/2024) Dr. Robert Redfield, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has issued a grim prediction that the next major pandemic will be caused by the bird flu. “I really do think it’s very likely that we will, at some time—it’s not a question of if, it’s more a question of when—we will have a bird flu pandemic,” Dr. Redfield told NewsNation in an interview published on June 14. Dr. Redfield has in the past warned about the dangers of gain-of-function research, which involves altering the properties of a pathogen, such as its virulence, in order to study its potential effects on human health. Proponents of such research argue it can help scientists better learn how the virus behaves and spreads, and come up with counter-measures more effectively. Opponents say the potential benefits are outweighed by the risks that such research poses as it can makes viruses more lethal to humans. During a March 8, 2023, session of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Dr. Redfield called for a moratorium on this type of research, while expressing the view that the COVID-19 pandemic was caused by an accidental leak from a China- based lab where the virus was being subjected to experiments. Pfizer, for instance, said on April 1, 2021, that there were “no serious safety concerns through up to six months following second dose” of the vaccine it makes with Germany’s BioNTech, the lawsuit notes. But documents made public through a lawsuit showed that Pfizer’s adverse events database, which includes reported issues following vaccination from around the world, already contained 158,893 adverse events as of Feb. 28, 2021. They should be sued by everyone with an adverse reaction or death because of the vaccines. Pasteurizing Milk Inactivates Highly Infectious Bird Flu: USDA Report (Epoch Times, 7/3/2024) Pasteurizing milk kills highly pathogenic bird flu virus H5N1, though some viral RNA may remain, a study conducted by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) finds. The study, published Wednesday in the Journal of Virology, evaluated nearly 300 pasteurized milk samples. About 20 percent contained noninfectious virus RNA, and the authors determined that the milk did not pose a risk to public health. Before this study, the USDA had detected the new H5N1 bird flu in raw milk. Therefore, researchers wanted to determine if pasteurization was sufficient to eliminate the virus. Pasteurization is a sanitation and food preservation method often used in milk processing. Raw milk is quickly heated for 15 seconds to 161 degrees Fahrenheit to kill pathogenic viruses and other microbes. “Milk is safe,” Erica Spackman, a virologist at the USDA, said in the news release. “Just like bacterial pathogens that occur in milk, or other viruses that could occur in milk, the sanitation processes that are in place are getting rid of the pathogens.” The Bird Flu is the next “Plan-demic” by the Globalists! Tanja Benton, who had worked at the firm for 16 years when she was fired, was awarded $177,240 in back pay, $10,000 in compensation, and $500,000 in punitive damages, according to a document made public by the federal court in eastern Tennessee on June 30. Company officials told Ms. Benton in August of 2021 that she would need to be “fully vaccinated” to keep her position, according to her lawsuit. Lawyers for the AG filed their notice on July 2, arguing that some charter rights weren’t breached by the measure. Businessmen Karl Harrison and Shaun Rickard filed their second lawsuit against the minister of Transportation and the AG in November 2023, seeking $1 million each in damages for the alleged violation of their charter rights.
