Anti-Semitism in Canadian Schools? Blame Critical Race Theory (Epoch Times, 5/13/2024) CRT (Critical Race Theory) can be a useful philosophical tool in professional ethics, where it helps social workers and lawyers not to accidentally duplicate oppressive social structures. Unfortunately, that is not the version of CRT that gets into teachers’ colleges, and into schools. Cut-rate CRT, applied through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, divides the world up into oppressor groups and oppressed groups. In its simplified moral compass, oppressed groups are “good” and oppressors “bad.” All one needs to do to justify public funds or privileges for a group is to label them “oppressed.” And in the spirit of Herbert Marcuse’s ideal of “repressive tolerance,” one can justify any restraint on a group’s liberty by designating it as an “oppressor.” It would be asinine to portray Canada’s Jewish minority—historically subject to lethal Canadian intolerance—as oppressors. Columnist Warren Kinsella argues that the anti-Jewish protests are foreign-funded, an attempt to fight Middle Eastern wars on Canadian shores. The portrayal only has traction because the idiotic worldview of cut-rate CRT can say that because there are successful Jewish citizens and a successful Jewish state, Jews must be oppressors. Cut-rate CRT, in other words, causes systemic discrimination. As a worldview, it is obviously not true and obviously not helpful. It is used as a justification for widespread violence. So why is it being encouraged in our schools? The answer is that we don’t become interested in theories because they are true but because they are useful. For teachers’ unions and ambitious academics, cut-rate CRT is far more useful than the philosophical kind. The fact that it allows you to designate almost any group as an oppressor, and any other group as oppressed, is a feature, rather than a fatal flaw. It’s a tool that can lead to power. The interest in power sometimes seems overwhelming. In 2022, the Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation endorsed 88 candidates and elected 52, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process. The Alberta Teachers’ Association has announced open defiance of the provincial government and an aggressive campaign for school board seats that includes funding allied activist groups. Stabbing Spree Wounding 6 Allegedly Identified As A Trans Woman (Red Voice Media, May 26, 2024) Reports are coming in that the suspect was originally identified as a man by ABC News and Boston 25 News and has now been identified as a trans woman… In a terrifying turn of events, a knife-wielding suspect believed to be linked to a murder investigation embarked on a shocking stabbing spree on Saturday, targeting innocent individuals at a movie theater and a McDonald’s in Massachusetts. The rampage commenced at around 6 p.m. inside the AMC Braintree 10, where the armed assailant entered a theater without paying and viciously attacked four young girls aged 9 to 17, according to Braintree police. The victims, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were promptly transported to Boston-area hospitals for treatment. Witnesses described the suspect as donning an “oversized trench coat, sunglasses, and a long blonde wig” as he carried out the unprovoked attacks at the movie theater. After fleeing the scene in a black SUV, the suspect drove over 30 miles to Plymouth, MA, where he allegedly committed another “similar assault” at a McDonald’s. Massachusetts State Troopers responded to the scene at the Rt. 3 Park and Ride in Plymouth at 7:09 p.m., where a 21-year-old female and a 29-year-old male were found with apparent stab wounds. Both individuals were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. There seem to be a growing number of violent attacks from so called Trans Women, essentially biological males. Some people think those who identify as such have mental illness. Certainly, if a growing number of them keep attacking people violently, something must be wrong with them! Yet it was barely reported on by Canadian media (The Hub, May 28, 2024) The CBC and Canada's national media are showing their bias in the lack of coverage. In 2023, conservative governments in New Brunswick and Saskatchewan both introduced policies requiring parental consent for pronoun changes for school children, with the latter invoking the notwithstanding clause. More recently, Alberta announced it will bring in a host of policies related to youth transition, including restricting the use of hormone therapies, puberty blockers, and gender reassignment surgery. At the national level, Pierre Poilievre has publicly opposed puberty blockers for children. Such restrictions have been rejected by major Canadian medical organizations, which remain committed to the “gender-affirming” model of care. Yet this medical consensus is being challenged at home and abroad. Canadian investigative reports have raised questions about insufficient safeguards for hormone treatment and surgeries. Outside Canada, several European countries are actually moving away from the gender-affirming model. Then came the Cass Review. On April 10, 2024, British pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass released her long-awaited Independent Review of Gender Identity Services for Children and Young People. Commissioned by England’s National Health Service (NHS), the 387-page report was completed alongside independent reviews of the scientific evidence around youth gender medicine by a research team from the University of York, which were published as nine journal articles in the Archives of Disease in Childhood. The Cass Review’s 32 recommendations call for an overhaul of how youth gender medicine is practiced in the United Kingdom. Cass found “a lack of high-quality evidence” for the gender-affirming model of care, particularly with respect to “the use of puberty blockers and masculinising/feminising hormones.” The review recommended “extreme caution” for providing cross-sex hormones for children and raised concerns that puberty blockers “may change the trajectory of psychosexual and gender identity development.” Going forward, the review urged that youth gender services “must operate to the same standards as other services seeing children and young people with complex presentations and/or additional risk factors.” The Cass Review received significant media attention (positive and negative) in the U.S. and in Europe. It appears to have already had a serious impact in the U.K. and beyond. Both the Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Labour Party’s shadow health secretary praised the report, while Scotland’s NHS announced it would pause puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children (NHS England had already paused puberty blockers in March). There are suggestions that Belgium and the Netherlands may soon follow suit. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith even cited the Cass Review as justification for her government’s proposed gender policies. Support for Cass was not merely confined to conservative sources, as the report was portrayed positively in the New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Guardian, as well as by the editor-in-chief of The British Medical Journal. Oklahoma pedophile convicted of abusing 7-year-old stepdaughter quickly becomes trans, appeals conviction (American News, May 27, 2024) A trans-identifying biological male convicted pedophile who was found guilty of raping his 7- year-old stepdaughter is appealing the life sentence handed down by the court, claiming that the prosecution made "improper remarks” with the label of “abuser.” Robert William Perry II, 32, announced the transition shortly before being sentenced to life behind bars, and received gender-related concessions from the court. According to Reduxx, Perry's lawyers argued that the prosecution erred when they used the term "abuser," and gave too much credence to the victim's testimony. Perry was arrested in 2018 and charged with several counts of child sexual abuse. An Oklahoma state court convicted Perry in 2020, but the conviction was dismissed after it was determined that, because Perry is Native American, and the crimes were committed on Muscogee territory. Ahead of Pride Month: School Walk-Outs Planned, Parents Discuss LGBT Lessons in Schools (Epoch Times, 5/29/2024) June is Pride Month, which often means LGBT-related events and discussions at schools across Canada. Some school walk-outs are planned for the beginning of the month, to coincide with Pride flag-raising ceremonies. Canada has seen a growing push for increased parental rights, especially when it comes to sensitive topics in the classroom. The governments of New Brunswick and Saskatchewan have passed laws that prohibit schools from keeping a student’s gender transition a secret from parents. Alberta has proposed new rules requiring teachers to have parents opt in before any gender or sexuality-related lessons. Chanel Pfahl, a former public high school teacher, told virtual summit attendees that gender and sexuality content is increasingly being taught in Canadian schools without parents’ knowledge or consent. “If ever you get the chance to walk through your kids’ school, have a look,” Ms. Pfahl said, referring to projects and artwork on display. “Either students in clubs will work on these [topics] or a class will do a project showcase, or it could just be an activist teacher who’s doing it all on their own.” During Pride Month in June, LGBT terms are included in morning announcements at some schools, calling them “words of the day,” according to Ms. Pfahl. “As a parent, you shouldn’t expect to be contacted with information,” she said during a recorded presentation. “They’re going to go right past you.” She also said that ideas are shared at school assemblies through reading books aloud with content that celebrates gender diversity or equity. “They might also get the students involved in this and the students might do a presentation on how your peers can be more inclusive, what language to use and all of that stuff,” Ms. Pfahl said. Several school walkout events were organized last year to coincide with Pride flag-raising ceremonies, which take place at the start of the month. Some groups are already organizing similar events for 2024, while school boards debate whether to raise a flag or not. YCDSB’s (York Catholic District School Board) controversy has carried over to this year, with trustee Frank Alexander proposing a ban on Pride flags (and all other flags aside from the Canadian flag and a few others) inside schools as well. That motion was proposed in January and sent to a committee for review. The Freedom Party of Canada will bring in legislation that allows only Federal, Provincial and Municipal flags on or in all Federal, Provincial and Municipal properties, schools, arenas and stadiums, libraries, shopping malls and all public places. 'What could go wrong?': Woke Boston mayor seeks to decriminalize theft, not punish thieves (PM, May 30, 2024) Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has been revealed to support abolishing Boston Police’s gang database and stating that charges such as shoplifting, drug possession, and trespassing should not be charged. Wu, who has previously come under fire for holding a segregated holiday party for "elected officials of color," made this known in the 2021 Boston Mayoral Candidate Questionnaire form from Progressive Massachusetts, a nonprofit group that ranks the progressiveness of elected officials, according to the Daily Mail. Wu took office in November 2021. "Instead of prosecuting, these cases should be (1) outright dismissed prior to arraignment or (2) where appropriate, diverted and treated as a civil infraction for which community service is satisfactory, restitution is satisfactory or engagement with appropriate community-based no-cost programming, job training or schooling is satisfactory," the memo stated. Wu in the questionnaire also stated that officers involved in the January 6 "Capitol insurrection" or who have been found to have an "affiliation with white supremacist organizations" should be terminated. She stated that she supported safe consumption sites for illicit drug use, said the city needed to reduce car usage and "dramatically shift commutes to sustainable transportation," supported the end of information sharing between Boston Police and ICE, and supported the banning of rubber bullets, "attack dogs," tear gas and other chemical weapons. Risk of Suicide 12 Times Greater After ‘Gender-Affirming’ Surgery: Study (Epoch Times, 5/22/2024) A recent study has found that the risk of suicide, self-harm, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for individuals who have undergone gender-transition surgeries is significantly higher than among those who have not had the surgery. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch, found that individuals who had undergone gender-transition surgery experienced these adverse effects at more than 12 times the rate of those who did not have a history of gender-transition surgery. The study examined data from nearly 16 million U.S. adult patients between the ages of 18 and 60 who went to an emergency room for treatment from 2003 to 2023. This data came from a larger database of over 90 million patients from 56 health care facilities. Researchers isolated data from 1,501 patients who had undergone gender-transition surgery at some point in the five years before their emergency room visit and 15,608,363 patients who had no history of gender-transition surgery, as well as two additional control groups. The data show that 3.47 percent of the patients who had undergone gender-reassignment surgery were treated for suicide attempts, compared to 0.29 percent of patients who did not have that history, a difference of 12.12 times. While the study does not clarify at what age the patients attempted suicide or engaged in self-harm, it does make clear that it did not include minors. Julie Quist, board chair of the Child Protection League, said the results of the study were “deeply disturbing.” She also said it raises “serious implications” in the health industry, mental health industry, and education system, which have almost universally adopted the “affirmation only” approach as the best treatment for gender dysphoria in children and teens. “This is a very credible study,” said Ms. Quist, referring to the large sample size and long timespan of the study. She said she was stunned by the 12.12 times higher rate of suicide attempt risk, recalling how parents who are reportedly coerced into allowing their children to undergo these irreversible surgeries are often asked questions such as “do you want a daughter or do you want a dead son,” implying that if they don’t allow their child to medically transition, the child will be more likely to kill themselves. “This is standard language that they use,” she said. “It’s beyond belief.” If suicide attempts for those who have transitioned are happening at this rate among those over 18, she said it’s “counterintuitive” to assume that it’s not happening at the same, if not a higher, rate among children and teens. “Think of all of the parents who are being told that affirming is the only answer and that the surgeries are safe and prevent suicide,” she said. “It’s a tool of manipulation that is completely false and the depth of this deception is breathtaking. They’ve weaponized the idea of suicide to coerce people into doing exactly the wrong thing.” Researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands recently released the results of a study analyzing survey data from 2,772 adolescents over a span of 15 years, starting at age 11. The study found that in early adolescence, 11 percent of participants reported “gender non- contentedness.” However, the prevalence had decreased to 4 percent by the time they reached the age of 26. “Gender non-contentedness, while being relatively common during early adolescence, in general decreases with age and appears to be associated with a poorer self-concept and mental health throughout development,” the researchers concluded. Dr. Patrick Lappert, a certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon of more than 25 years, said the findings of the University of Texas study are conclusive. “They looked at a large cohort of patients who had the fullness of affirmation care, including gender-affirmation surgery, and what they found is that persons who have had all of the affirmation care still have a suicidality of over 12-fold likelihood,” he told The Epoch Times. He noted that a similar study published by Swedish researchers in 2011 found similar results showing a higher rate of suicide and increased need for inpatient psychiatric care among people who underwent gender-reassignment surgery. Pantsless Florida man in ladies blouse crashes car into jail to 'kill everyone,' says devil made him do it (American News, June 6, 2024) A 40-year-old homeless man has been arrested and charged after reportedly driving his vehicle into Martin County Jail in Florida on Monday night before proceeding to threaten to burn the place down and "kill everyone." Joseph Leedy, who was wearing only a blouse at the time, also threw rubber snakes on the floor, expressed disdain for Donald Trump, and allegedly assaulted officers as they struggled to detain him. As WPTV reports, Chief Deputy John Budensiek explained that the suspect "kept saying things like, 'the devil told me to kill everyone' and he kept sharing his disdain for President Donald Trump." Wyoming teacher fired for refusing to call transgender students by their preferred names (American News, June 6, 2024) A Wyoming substitute school teacher who refused to call transgender-identifying students by their preferred names has been banned from teaching at a high school in the Laramie County School District. His job is currently under review by multiple other schools, but he insisted that he won't back down from his stance on the names issue. Gene Clemetson said that it all began at East High School in Cheyenne when a transgender student, who he described as a biological male, asked to be called by a female name during an attendance roll call. "I said to him, very politely, I have to go by the name on the roster," Clemetson told the Cowboy State Daily. The student returned with another teacher, who informed Clemetson that the student's parents had given the school permission to call their child by an alternate name. Clemetson responded, "Well that's great, but again, if I'm calling the attendance, if I'm calling the roll, I'm going by the names officially registered with the district." The substitute teacher said that if a student legally changed their birth name he would call them by their new legal name. However, Clemetson prefers opposition to the transgender names issue and stated that he will not tolerate being forced to call someone by a different name, which he claims is his First Amendment right. Additionally, Clemetson said the principal of Triumph High School asked him to leave the building after a student, whom he described as a "young lady," approached him and asked to be called by a male name and he refused. The principal informed him that the HR Department would be in contact. Under Wyoming law, district employees must adhere to administrative rules, and a US District Court Judge for the state ruled last year that teachers don't have the right to deny calling a student by their preferred name if official school policy requires them to do so. However, Clemetson views the names dispute as a free speech matter. "Gender (language) is a First Amendment issue. Nobody should be forced to go along with someone else's thought process. If you're a boy and you want to consider yourself a girl, I don't have to buy into that," he told Cowboy Star Daily. Clemetson's fate with the school district has not yet been determined. Spencer Cox oversaw implementation of DEI in education while taking $550 MILLION from Biden’s COVID funds (American News, June 8, 2024) Utah Governor Spencer Cox oversaw an initiative to push DEI into Utah schools. Under Biden’s Covid-era policies for school aid, Cox and those in the in the Utah education department pushed DEI far beyond what was required per the conditions of the funding. The Biden administration’s ARP had a requirement for states to “maintain equity” in public schools, but Utah took the plan a step further, using the requirement as a jumping off point for broader DEI initiatives. In the plan, Governor Cox’s office and some nonprofits, along with left-wing groups like the Utah Pride Center and Encircle of Utah, set priorities in the state for “identifying the needs of underserved students,” that are low income, from ethnic groups that face disparities, “migratory students,” and others. One priority from the plan was “broader social and economic issues impacting students’ opportunity to learn” in Utah. The USBE then used this priorities list in order to gather data to identify needs for LGBTQ students as well as services for “migratory” students that did not have equity in schools. An advisory board called the USBE Advisory Committee on Equity of Educational Services for Students (ACEESS) that had membership based on identity quotas was also used to set policy in the plan. There had to be two people representing each of the following racial groups: American Indian/Alaska Native, African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino American, and Pacific Islander American/Native Hawaiian. When you put policies in place that target certain racial groups…. that is racial discrimination against those groups not mentioned. It is giving preferential treatment to some groups over others. That is racism. ‘Gynecologist’ Now Deemed To Be Offensive | Cervix Replaced by ‘Front Hole’ (RVM, June 8, 2024) Recent actions by the Canadian Cancer Society and a group of midwives have sparked significant controversy over the use of inclusive language in healthcare. Critics argue that these changes, aimed at accommodating transgender and non-binary individuals, undermine medical accuracy and waste valuable resources. The Canadian Cancer Society recently issued an apology for using the term “cervix” on a webpage targeted at transgender and non-binary individuals assigned female at birth. The page, intended to provide information on cervical cancer screenings for the LGBTQ+ community, acknowledged that some trans men and non-binary people are uncomfortable with the word “cervix.” As an alternative, the society suggested terms like “front hole.” Dr. Kim Greene-Liebowitz from New York criticized the move on social media, stating, “If you can’t call body parts by their actual names, you really don’t deserve to have any role in health and medicine.” Organizations like this should not receive your support any more. Let your dollars speak for your voices. I will never make another donation to the Canadian Cancer Society after hearing this!!! Vast Majority of Parents Want Teachers to Focus on Facts Over Opinion: Poll (Epoch Times, 6/12/2024) A large majority of Canadian parents want teachers to provide notice of controversial lessons and to focus on facts rather than opinions in the classroom, according to a newly released report. Eighty-six percent of parents surveyed for the Fraser Institute report said both teachers and the curriculum they teach in Kindergarten through Grade 12 should focus on providing students with facts “and a learning environment within which students can openly explore facts” rather than the interpretations or opinions of teachers and school boards. Eighty-one percent of parents also said schools should provide advance notice of controversial topics being discussed in class or during formal school activities. “With ongoing debates across Canada impacting K-12 classrooms, school policies, and curriculum development, what we can glean from this parent survey is that a clear majority of parents across Canada want facts presented in classrooms rather than a teacher’s interpretation or opinions,” Fraser Institute associate director of education studies Paige MacPherson said in a press release. A total of 91 percent of parents polled said classroom material and discussions should always be age-appropriate while 76 percent agreed students should either be presented with both sides of controversial issues or they shouldn’t be taught on the topic at all. An additional 70 percent of parents said they should have the right to remove their child from a specific lesson on a controversial issue, with no impact to their child’s grade. Some of the topics labelled as controversial in the survey included gender issues and climate change. Parents have increasingly been calling for more say in what is taught in the classroom as a growing number of school boards introduce gender ideology as part of health and sex education. A larger-scale movement dubbed the “1 Million March for Children” swept across the country last September with thousands of demonstrators marching in cities nationwide to protest gender ideology in school curriculum. The Freedom Party of Canada agrees that all parents should know what is being taught to their children and should have the right to withdraw their children when topics they don’t agree with are taught in the classroom. The party will make it mandatory that no content of a sexual nature will be allowed in any classroom before grade 10. Transgender Person Charges Police With Large Knife, Gets Shot To Death In Denver (RVM, June 26, 2024) Denver police released body-worn camera footage capturing the moments leading to officers fatally shooting a knife-wielding individual in Denver earlier this month. The incident occurred on June 16 at the intersection of Broadway and Lawrence Street. The person killed during the encounter has been identified as 52-year-old Miguel Tapia. Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas stated that officers responded to reports of a person with a knife making aggressive movements toward them. Despite attempts to stop the individual with less-lethal methods, officers resorted to lethal force. Commander Matt Clark revealed that multiple motorists reported an individual standing in the intersection yelling at passing vehicles, prompting a police response. When officers arrived, Tapia was seen carrying bags with what appeared to be a large knife handle. Despite verbal commands, Tapia brandished the knife at the officers, leading to the use of firearms. Arkansas Supreme Court Rejects Gender-Neutral IDs (RVM, June 25, 2024) The Arkansas Supreme Court has ruled to eliminate the option for residents to use a neutral gender identification on their state ID cards, reinstating a state law that banned the use of “X” as an option for gender identification. This decision overturned a lower court’s block on the bill earlier this month, which had argued the ban would harm transgender residents. The Freedom Party of Canada supports only 2 genders on all identification and in all circumstances. Pentagon Funds Lab-Grown Meat Initiative (Epoch Times, 6/21/2024) A Department of Defense (DOD) initiative would involve feeding U.S. troops lab-grown meat as part of its campaign to stem “global climate change,” according to a watchdog group that has recently drawn attention to the initiative. BioMADE, a lab-grown meat manufacturer which is sponsored and funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, touted its record of innovation in announcing a federal funds budget ceiling increase to $500 million to assist in implementing the plan, according to a March 7 release. The activists contacted her broker and filed an ethics complaint, claiming that Mauck had made "derogatory statements" about the LGBTQ community, referring to its members as "pedophiles." Her broker caved to the pressure and ended his partnership, forcing her to find another position. She eventually founded her own brokerage, Freedom Realty USA, to prevent a similar scenario from playing out in the future.
